History in the Making......

In 1989, the Army's Community and Family Support Center (CFSC) launched the "Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers (BOSS) Program. The purpose was to create a unique program aimed at focusing on the single service member's quality of life.

In September of 1991, Fort Sill followed in the footsteps of the CFSC and implemented the program targeted. During its' existence, BOSS has evolved to include much more than recreational programs.  The Fort Sill BOSS program actively participates in barracks initiatives, volunteer work, and involvement in post activities such as the Sill Facts Council and PX/Commissary Advisory Councils to name a few.

Single Soldiers take a trip to Arlington, Tx, Aug. 18 with the BOSS program to enjoy the fun offered at Six Flags Amusement park.

Aside from working on the recreational aspects of the single service member's life, Fort Sill's BOSS Program is dedicated to joining command with service members to address their quality of life issues.

                        The three pillars of the BOSS program are

                         (1) community service;
                         (2) Quality of Life; and
                         (3) recreational activities.

This is the way it's done.......

1. The BOSS Council is established under its own Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). This provides the voting membership with representation from major subordinate commands (MSCs) on post to include brigade, battalion, and battery level representatives.

2. The SOP calls for monthly MSC meetings. Further, organized monthly post level meetings bring together ideas, issues, and concerns from MSC meetings and allow discussion on those needing post level attention. Meetings include addressing such topics as new recreational activities and community service time.

3. Issues addressed during BOSS meetings are submitted to the senior military advisor to seek resolution through proper command channels.

What's been done.....
Over the past several years our accomplishments have been numerous. This is due to hard work and dedication of BOSS representatives. With continued support, the BOSS program can and will thrive and be successful. Together,wehave built a team that supports the needs, concerns, and desires of our single and unaccompanied service members.
