Fort Sill is offering Learn to Swim Classes once again! Classes meet twice a week for 4 weeks on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Times vary by level. Ask about our LEARN-TO-SWIM Programs for infants (6 months and older), children and adults

Free swimming lessons are FULL through September.
Sessions consist of eight 30 minute classes. Register at the RecPlex, Bldg 2502 Sheridan Rd or call (580)442-6200 for information. Registration will end promptly at 1pm on the first day of each session. *Maximum of 6 participants in each class, minimum of 3.

We offer different skill levels to meet the individual needs of the swimmer. Classes will be held at the Rinehart indoor pool.
KIDS LESSONS
- 30 minute classes
- All begin on level 2 if never taken lessons
- $35 for the 1st student and 30 each additional family member
- Tuesday and Thursdays for a month
- Register at the Recplex
ADULT LESSONS
- Tailored to meet individual needs
- Floating techniques
- Survival skills
- Basic swimming strokes
- $15 per session which consist of four 30 minute classes
- Wednesday from 11:45-12:15
Below is a list of class levels and the requirements for each level also listed is the basic skills that will be covered in each level.
PC-A (Parent & Child Aquatics A): 6 months to 3 yrs (parent assisted) ...back to top
PC-B (Parent & Child Aquatics B): 3 to 5 yrs (parent assisted)
Parents and children learn together to increase a child's comfort level in the water and build a foundation of basic skills will include arm and leg movements, breath control, water entry bubble blowing, front kicking, back floating, and underwater exploration.
*Maximum of 6 participants in each class, minimum of 3.
Level 1 - Introduction to Water Skills (4 years and older): ...back to top
- Does not put face in water.
- Is the child 4 years or older?
- Can the student enter the water without floaties or a life jacket on?
- This class will help students to become more comfortable in the water and to enjoy the water safely.
Level 2 – Fundamental Aquatics (5 years and older)
- Can the student enter unassisted, move 5 yards, and bob 5 times to chin level?
- Is the student able to float on front with support for 3 seconds, rollover onto back (with assistance), and float on back with support for 3 seconds?
- Student will work on developing fundamental skills while improving comfort level in water, learning to float, rhythmic breathing, and they will begin learning the basics of the front and back crawl stroke.
Level 3 – Stroke Development (6 years and older) ...back to top
- Can the student step from pool side into chest-deep water, move into a front float for 5 seconds, roll over to a back float, return to standing position, then move into a back float for 5 seconds and return to a standing position?
- Student is able to push off and swim at least 15 feet on their front and back using a combination of arm and leg movements?
- Student will work on improving and developing front crawl, backstroke, back crawl, and breaststroke.
Level 4 – Stroke Improvement (7 years and older)
- Can the student jump into chest-deep water from the side, swim front crawl for 15 yards with face in the water and rhythmic breathing pattern (to front or side)?
- Can the student maintain position by treading or floating for 30 seconds and swim back crawl for 15 yards?
- The student will develop confidence in strokes learned in previous levels and improve on other aquatic skills. They will work on developing breaststroke, sidestroke and improve distance and endurance in the water.
Level 5 – Stroke Refinement (8 years and older) ...back to top
- Can the student perform a feet-first entry into chest-deep water, swim front crawl for 25 yards, maintain position on back 1 minute in deep water (float or scull), and swim elementary backstroke for 15 yards?
- Can student swim breaststroke for 15 yards, tread water for 1 minute, and swim back crawl for 25 yards?
- This class will provide students with further coordination and refinement on strokes. They will also begin learning the basics of the butterfly.
Level 6 – Swim Proficiency (9 years and older)
- Can the student perform a shallow dive into deep water, swim front crawl 50 yards, maintain a back float position for 2 minutes in deep water (float or scull) and swim elementary backstroke for 25 yards?
- Can the student swim breaststroke for 25 yards, tread water for 2 minutes and swim back crawl for 50 yards?
- Students will develop stoke endurance and continue to refine their strokes so they will gain ease, efficiency, power, and smoothness over great distances. This level also has options to prepare the student to participate in more advance courses such as Water Safety Instructor and Lifeguard Training.

This class will be tailored to meet individual needs of each participant age 16 or older while learning how to enjoy the water. Students will learn floating techniques, survival skills, basic swimming strokes, or get the coaching you need for the big meet or as an alternative to traditional exercise routines. All levels of ability welcome. *Maximum of 6 participants in each class, minimum 3.
