“Volunteer Service Corps”

The AVCC is an advocate for volunteerism, helping to create an environment where volunteering is an important service performed with pride and professionalism.

The spirit of volunteerism is alive and flourishing. With the recent budget cuts, there is a greater competition for the volunteer’s services than in the past. Volunteers make a real difference in the lives of our soldiers and their families with the services and skills they bring to the installation. Without our volunteers, many of the services provided by the volunteer agencies would not be able to function.

The AVCC Serves as a Link:

  • Between individual volunteers and the agencies utilizing their services.
  • Between the command and voluntary agencies.

Who Should Volunteer and Why

  • Some people leave career fields, but plan to re-enter in the future. Volunteer work will help to maintain job skills.
  • If your job skills are under developed, volunteering will help increase your skills and prepare you to enter the job market in the future.
  • Retirees who have been productive members for many years find time on their hands. Volunteering lets them continue to contribute their experience and develop camaraderie with co-workers.
  • Young spouses can offer new and fresh ideas, but feel they can’t afford child care.. Many of the volunteer agencies will pay for child care.
  • Volunteering is also a good way to past the time, build friendships and keep in touch when units deploy.

The AVCC Will:

  • Keep a file of voluntary agencies with information about the services offered by each, key people to contact, etc.
  • Maintain an ongoing recruiting program for finding new volunteers.
  • Re-refer those volunteers want to change their duties.
  • Interview volunteers and make recommendations for placement which would best match their abilities with the agencies’ needs.
  • Track the number of volunteers on the installation by voluntary agency and the total hours volunteered.
  • Ensure volunteers receive appropriate recognition and credit for training or job experience.
